A month ago, Richie wrote a column for the paper version of Unfair Park about the, ahem, comeback of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter, currently pitching for the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings in the Arena2 league, which is the minor leagues for the Arena Football League. Judging by the comments attached to his piece, some folks in Louisiana are taking offense at Richie's referring to CenturyTel Center, where the BWings play, as having all the ambience of a "a nursing home knitting hour." Seems no one much cares about Carter, just the place in which he's desperately trying to prove he belongs back in the bigs.
Well, today comes word that Carter -- who's also been cut by the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League -- is in trouble with his latest team. He's being suspended by the BWings for Friday night's game against the Manchester Wolves for having missed "an unspecified number of team meetings," reports The Shreveport Times today. Battle Wings operating manager Dan Newman says Carter became "upset" when informed of the decision, which may get extended. Just don't reach for the bong, Q-Car. Just say no. --Robert Wilonsky
