If you've spent the last few nights out and about watching Your Texas Rangers get thoroughly outplayed in the World Series by the Giants, perhaps tonight is a good time to stay home and drown your sorrows alone. But for those ready to shift gears and put on your political pants, there's no better place to watch Election Day returns roll in than with folks of your own kind.
So, if you're rooting for the Democrats -- the defending champs led by chair Darlene Ewing (who could be ousted if the Dems don't post strong numbers), U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, state Representative Rafael Anchía and District Attorney Craig Watkins -- you'll be right at home cheering on your team at AT&T Plaza in Victory Park beginning at 7 p.m. (Actually, as Robert noted earlier, rain has moved the shindig into the Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Club inside American Airlines Center. Music by The American Classics and The Ackermans.)
Fans of state Rep. Eric Johnson and county judge candidate Clay Jenkins can be found at Studio Bar & Grill starting at 7, while those supporting state Rep. Allen Vaught will be at Lakewood Country Club around 7:30. Additionally, former council member Dr. Elba Garcia, who's running against Commissioner Ken Mayfield, will be at the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff, and Loretta Haldenwang, who's trying to unseat state Rep. Linda Harper Brown, is partying at the BlueFire Grill inside the Westin Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Hotel.
Meanwhile, the Republicans and county chair Jonathan Neerman will be at Hotel Palomar, also at 7 p.m. Stephen Broden, who's running for Congress against Johnson, is the only GOP candidate we found with his own party, but Neerman tells us that it has nothing to do with the recent controversy surrounding Broden's comments to WFAA reporter Brad Watson. Apparently, Broden had 300 or so folks to bring with, and it was decided that Frankie's Sports Bar in Uptown was a more appropriate venue, with his activities kicking off at 6 p.m. Ex-Intern Elliot will be there, if only because he's always at Frankie's on Tuesday nights -- otherwise known as Free Pizza Tuesdays.
