Watching the Boston Red Sox take a 2-0 stranglehold on the Colorado Rockies last night, it struck me: How far -- really now -- are Your Texas Rangers from playing in a World Series? Honestly, I’m just hopeful my son’s kids’ kids are around to see it. But, according to Baseball America, it may be closer than we think.
You’ll have to trust me on this, because BA charges $65 a year for its online info, but the mag has come out with its 2007 Major League Draft rankings -- and Texas is second, behind only the Washington Nationals. That means someone other than GM Jon Daniels thought highly of Blake Beavan, Michael Main and the boys. With the influx of young talent acquired in the late-season trades of Kenny Lofton, Eric Gagne and Mark Teixeira, it’s safe to say the Rangers’ future is brighter than their past. Duh.
But let’s be realistic, the closest we’re going to be connected to a World Series any time soon is this kid. --Richie Whitt
