There's no need to recap the recent history of the Oak Cliff Christian Church -- that's all been well-documented here, beginning with the initial December '09 post warning of its inevitable demise. At this late date I'll say only this: Last weekend, I was out with the 7-year-old who lives in my house, on one of our regular historic-tours-of. We passed by the close-to-century-old church on E. 10th Street; I told the boy it was about to come down. He asked: "Is it going to become a parking lot or a bank?" (Sniff, so proud.) I told him, no, the DISD wants to turn it into athletic fields. He said, "No, really." No. Really.

Till hours ago, it looked more or less like this. But Jeff Liles and Melissa Hennings were at the site today, where crew are razing the roof and all the rest, and now it looks like this. More of Melissa's photos follow. One further note, for those who've forgotten: This church was designed by Charles Bulger, the man also responsible for the late, great McKinney Avenue Baptist Church.

Update at 3:04 p.m.: No sooner did I post this than DISD sent word concerning Monday's groundbreaking ceremony for the "new" Adamson High School, which will include the site of the now-former church. Details follow.
