Word out of City Hall today is that the Jeffries Street Learning Center -- a nonprofit on Grand Avenue whose mission is to provide Fair Park-area kids with "a positive environment and positive role models" -- will receive its own bailout package courtesy Bank of America. Says the release announcing a press conference tomorrow with Mayor Tom Leppert and Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle, the center, which serves some 80 kids from the area daily and has received upwards of six figures from the South Dallas/Fair Park Trust Fund in the past, was close to losing a "significant $50,000 grant" due to the economic downtown. But "Bank of America has stepped in," notes the missive, "donating $50,000 so that Jeffries Street can continue to educate at risk children." Richard Holt, the Dallas Market President for Bank of America, will present the check tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. --Robert Wilonsky
