Almost a year ago to the day I wrote this column about the spiraling, once-promising career of SMU quarterback Justin Willis.
I'm told that when Willis - who last season was moved to receiver by head coach June Jones - found out this week that he wasn't considered a starter, he quit the Mustangs. The SMU-friendly site PonyPride.com confirms it.
Sad.
And that's just the start of it.
Willis, a senior and once the best player on campus, was recovering from a broken leg suffered last season and recently his father was shot to death in Irving. He was suspended twice and ultimately plummeted from the face of the program to depth-chart fodder.
