Hitting Coach Rudy Jaramillo declines offer of contract extension
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has invited all six members of the coaching staff to return for the 2010 season. Hitting Coach Rudy Jaramillo has declined a contract offer by the Rangers, and he will not return to the coaching staff next year.
"Our club made great progress this season, and Ron Washington and the coaching staff played a large role in that step forward," said General Manager Jon Daniels. "Rudy Jaramillo has been a consummate professional and great asset to the Rangers, and we wish him luck in his future endeavors."
Returning next season are bench coach and catching instructor Jackie Moore (2nd season), pitching coach Mike Maddux (2nd season), third base coach and infield instructor Dave Anderson (2nd season), first base coach and baserunning instructor Gary Pettis (4th season), and bullpen coach Andy Hawkins (2nd season). Jaramillo spent 15 seasons as the team's hitting coach after being named to the post on October 26, 1994.
The Rangers went 87-75 (.537) this season, the fourth-best record in the American League in 2009. The pitching staff posted the team's lowest ERA since 1993, registering the second-largest year-to-year drop in club history. Texas fielders recorded the 7th-best fielding pct. in team history, contributing to the lowest total of unearned runs ever by a Rangers club. The team's baserunners totaled 149 stolen bases, the third-highest total in club history, posting the second-best stolen base success rate in the majors at 80.5%.
