Last month rookie city council member Dave Neumann invited Mayor Tom Leppert and council member Angela Hunt to debate the Trinity River toll road before a couple of his neighborhood groups. Neumann, naturally, is very gung-ho on the side of the mayor and the Vote No! team: He's Leppert's appointee as chair of the Trinity River Project Committee.
Well, after a couple of debates during which audiences laughed derisively at the mayor and cheered Hunt, Neumann disinvited Hunt from the “debate.” Now the “debate” is going to be Mayor Tom Leppert vs. Mayor Tom Leppert. Fortunately, they agree and even love each other.
Somebody -- and we gotta think it’s Leppert -- is now actually afraid of Hunt … and doesn’t quite get the concept of “debate,” eh? Just look at the e-mail exchange that follows, in which Neumann comes across like Douchebag of the Year.

The best part of all this? Hunt is going to show up anyway, and Jesse Diaz of the League of United Latin American Citizens has promised to picket the place if they don’t let Hunt speak. --Jim SchutzeWhat does that mean exactly? I’m sure you can imagine how curious it is to be uninvited after having accepted an invitation to speak. Was the opposition uninvited as well? Is Rebecca Dugger making a presentation? Have you called off having a meeting about the Trinity referendum? A little clarity would be much appreciated.
