Aside from that unsolicited non sequitur intended to illustrate Americans' lack of faith in the judicial system, Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins's tête-à-tête with Stephen Colbert last night was notable only for how relatively straight it played. Colbert tried to draw Watkins offside early with a comment about his not looking like your average Texas district attorney (no, um, cowboy hat). But save for a jab at county commissioners only locals would notice (concerning the recent skirmish over "resources"), the D.A. with the DNA stayed on point by promoting his office's innocence project. In short, he told the Colbert Nation, in Dallas County, the innocent are freed; the guilty, punished. And ... scene.
