Stop weeping already. I know you wish you hadn't missed last night's inaugural episode of Rock Star: Supernova, but it's cool; I got your back. The girls offered the heaviest competition; most of the guys were way too wussy to front a band of known rock hooligans. And the Texas gals came out with guns blazing. Former Dallasite-current Austinite Patrice Pike (of Little Sister, Sister Seven and Black Box Rebellion fame 'round these parts) cranked out a strong "Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane and was met with approval. One of the aging rockers with bad hair (sorry, they all run together after a bit) offered that she seemed to "really want to front" the Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted venture. Local Latin temptress Zayra Alvarez provided a confident, if not quite nasal, rendition of Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" that prompted Newsted to propose. She said yes, of course. This is a competition, after all.
The award for most appalling performance however, goes right to Chris Pierson for his atrocious re-arrangement of The Police's "Roxanne." People gasped with horror. Tommy Lee laughed. --Merritt Martin
