Speaking of road work, this morning the city council's Trinity River Corridor Project Committee is discussing, among myriad other items of interest, finally fixing the N. Beckley Avenue-W. Commerce Street intersection, which is narrow, pedestrian-unfriendly and "has a drainage system that is near full capacity," eeew. Won't be cheap -- around $6 million, once you factor in studies, designs and the actual work.

Won't be easy either, as the Commerce Street bridge pictured above needs to be widened but is "an historic eligible structure built in 1931 [that] cannot be replaced with current project funds," says the briefing. But all goes according to plan, from this March till the fall of 2010, you might want to find an alternate route if you're headed in that general direction. --Robert Wilonsky
