Last weekend, leaders of Dallas Diocese of the Episcopal church met at Southfork Ranch for their annual retreat and formally decided that they would remain a part of the Episcopal Church. There had been some rumblings that the diocese would leave the church over the ordination of Katharine Jefferts Schori as presiding bishop, as Christ Church in Plano did. Schori, of Nevada, supports the ordination of gays to the Episcopal clergy. The Dallas diocese's bishop, James Stanton, went so far as to request "direct primatial oversight" with the archbishop of Canterbury, meaning his diocese didn't want to recognize Schori as its leader. In a statement today, Stanton announced that he has "quietly" withdrawn this request. In part, he said, his request had caused "confusion and some anxiety within the Dallas Diocese." --Jesse Hyde
