Wrote Schutze in last week's paper version of Unfair Park: "A petition drive under way right now in Dallas calls for a citywide election on tax subsidies from City Hall to developers. I'm amazed I'm not for it. ... I'm getting a really bad odor." Also against it: Mayor Tom Leppert and Angela Hunt, who called the initiative "completely wrong-headed" in The Dallas Morning News last month.

The petition drive's being handled by Unite Here!, a New York City-based union representing service industry workers that says it just wants Dallas residents to be able to vote on all taxpayer-funded subsidies of more than a million dollars doled out to developers. And lest you think they weren't serious, Dave Levinthal brings this news today: On Thursday, its reps say, they'll drop off at City Hall 30,000 petition signatures required for a referendum.
