I spent way too much time this afternoon on this Web site devoted to the 1973 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car -- which, if you haven't figured it out by now, was a Cadillac Eldorado. But that's only because I spent way too much time inside a 1973 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car yesterday -- or, at the very least, one of the 513 replicas made available at the time (one per dealership). Saw it -- couldn't miss it -- parked in an empty lot on Walnut Hill Lane across the street from Thomas Jefferson High School, though today it has since moved to the church parking lot across the street.
It's getting many look-sees (the missus said she just saw a small crowd gathered 'round the ride), though the price is a bit steep -- $16,000 or "best offer," says the owner, who's about to put it on eBay. Says he's got another parked on blocks on the garage. Nineteen thou for the pair. Probably gets three miles to the gallon; less once you start it. The thing smells like 1973. Two more photos follow.
