In a 911 call, McCann Utu Jr., 19, told a police dispatcher that he'd "committed murder" and "killed them." police said. McCann Utu later died at a hospital. Police say the murders took place sometime overnight.
Fawcett, a food journalist, was a frequent contributor to both KVIL and WFAA, hosting popular cooking segments on the TV channel's Saturday morning Daybreak broadcast. Josiah Utu played running back and linebacker for Plano West High School's football team. He was expected to graduate from the school in 2017.
McCann Utu graduated from Plano West in 2015. He played basketball for the school and reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury during a game in 2015. Justin Fawcett, Stacy Fawcett's brother, told WFAA that McCann Utu was never the same after the injury. Plano police said they were aware he might have suffered a head injury, but could not confirm it.A great person, a great teammate, family. McCann Utu Sr. issued the following statement Friday afternoon:
"I'm in so much pain right now and need to grieve for my boys and Stacy right now. I will stay in touch when the time is right. Please respect this time for me and my entire family. Thank you... God will use my pain to help and save others that are going through mental illness and concussion. God will be glorified through my pain."
Plano West is holding a memorial for Josiah Utu at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
