Dunno where Bill Ingram gets his info -- aside, course, from "various reports cited by a Los Angeles radio station," which is? -- but the month-old rumor that has Chris Webber joining Your Dallas Mavericks is alive and well this morning. Writes KRLD-AM (1080) contributor Ingram, who's tuned into his magical radio receiver, Dallas is close to signing the Detroit Piston to a one-year deal, using the team's mid-level exception.

"The Mavericks are willing to offer him the entire MLE," Ingram writes,"but would prefer to give him $3.5 million and use the rest to add one more piece to the roster" -- that one extra piece being, just maybe, 30-year-old Miami Heat swingman and one of the Mavs' Finals foes James "Parker" Posey, who was popped by Miami cops in April on DUI charges. That's not really his nickname. Oughta be. --Robert Wilonsky
