You heard it here first: Charlie Waters just accepted the job to be the analyst on Dallas Cowboys radio broadcasts for next season. Waters, an All-Pro safety with the team in the 1970s, will be Brad Sham's partner on KTCK 1310 AM The Ticket beginning with this summer's pre-season schedule. Waters, who worked on pre- and post-game shows on former flagship stations KLUV 98.7 FM and KVIL 103.7 FM the last decade, was the team's first choice over a host of candidates including former players Darren Woodson and Dale Hellestrae. Waters will replace Babe Laufenberg, who announced last month he wasn't returning to his role. Old-school Cowboys fans will remember Waters and Sham teaming together to call the classic 1979 victory over the Redskins in which an energized Waters told Sham "don't give up on the Cowboys...they're the most exciting team in football...this baby's not over." Minutes later Roger Staubach threw touchdown passes, giving the Cowboys a 35-34 win and Waters a place in the team's broadcast lore. Waters' contract is for one year. --Richie Whitt
