Two quick items whilst I try to clean up some breaking news:
ESPNDallas asked Mayor Tom Leppert to provide 10 reasons why LeBron James ought to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. The mayor, being a good sport, complied. Examples: "Great airports at both DFW International and Love Field. Central location makes getting around the country quick and easy!" And, "On off nights, you can hit the opera at the stunning new Winspear Opera House." And, "The Mayor will personally greet you with Texas BBQ, Tex-Mex and Sweet Tea on the day you move in!"
The comments are funnier: "Kinda thought the top 10 list was pretty weak ... making me think of moving away from Dallas if all we have to offer is the opera and good airports." ...
And a good Friend of Unfair Park sends word that Travel + Leisure's annual America's Favorite Cities survey is out, ranking the best and worst cities in which to summer vacay. Dallas-Fort Worth, alas, came in at No. 2 on the worst list, behind Phoenix-Scottsdale. From T+L:
It's odd that a destination known for BBQ -- hugely popular in the summer -- ranked so low for summer travel. Maybe if there were more parks to encourage family get-togethers, the score would improve.Since when? (Upon further reflection, I assume they're referring to average summer low temperatures.)
Why to Go Anyway: If you have the urge to splurge on a luxury shopping excursion -- hello air-conditioning! -- book a trip here.
Average Summer Temp: 83 degrees.
