Turns out, on this issue at least, Gary Griffith was right. Cheese, at least of the black-tar-heroin-Tylenol PM variety, appears to be a much bigger problem than earlier thought. Not only did Dallas' Only Daily reveal yesterday that as many as 17 teenagers have died from the drug since 2005, but tonight Nightline will feature a segment on the inexpensive drug that's being sold for spare change on DISD campuses.

The segment will feature interviews with the likes of Sergeant Jeremy Liebbe, a narcotics officer for the Dallas Independent School District police force; controversial local activist Carlos Quintanilla, whose son attends a middle school where, earlier this year, a student overdosed on cheese; a local Spanish-language DJ enlisted to tell kids to just say no; and several DISD students rehabbing from their addictions to the drug. Nightline airs tonight on WFAA-Channel 8 at 10:35. --Robert Wilonsky
