Mighty good thing the city's opening up muni courts on Saturdays -- because, right, it's that most wonderful time of the year. No, not spring. Warrant Roundup on Saturday! Giddy. Up. So, don't say you weren't warned. From the release:
The Dallas City Marshal's Office will conduct a warrant round-up of individuals with outstanding arrest warrants for unpaid traffic and non-traffic citations. Offenders who are delinquent in satisfying their City of Dallas warrants are subject to being arrested and jailed. Dallas is joining law enforcement agencies from across Texas for the 2010 Statewide Warrant Roundup.Which reminds me: When I got home yesterday I was greeted by a mailed-from-the-city $45 parking ticket, which said I was parked on Elm Street near the George Allen at 4:05 p.m. in a spot that went no-parking at 4. Not. True. And, um, when I left the Allen after the train museum TRO hearing, there was no ticket on my windshield. This should be easy to fight, right? Right? I'm calling Dwaine Caraway.
Persons with outstanding City citations can avoid arrest by appearing in person at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center Lobby, 111 W. Commerce, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week or by visiting 106 S. Harwood between 7:15 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (wheelchair access is at 2014 Main Street). Citations can also be paid online.
The newly established Saturday Court (Magistrate/Proof or Plea Court), at 106 S. Harwood, open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. is another option for handling delinquent citations. This will allow defendants to visit with a Judge to quickly take care of traffic citations and eliminate the need to set a future court appearance.
Update: Has anyone ever really looked at the outstanding-warrants list -- I mean, other than to see if you (or your friends or a local of some note) are on it? There are people on there with dozens of warrants worth thousands of dollars. Shouldn't the city have a Top 10 list? Or do I need to make one? I need to make one.
