For the last several days, the Daily Press in Newport News, Virginia, has been running classified ads in which free English Bulldog pups are being offered. Only, once you respond to the e-mail address at the bottom, you get another instructing you that, well, the dog's actually coming from West Africa and, like, you're gonna have to pay the shipping. As the paper discovered today, turns out it's the ol' Nigerian Puppy Scam.

The local connection? Well, the ad offers as the e-mail contact "[email protected]," and the Daily Press story identifies Tony Evans as the "senior pastor to the more than 7,500 member Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church in Dallas, Texas" and the former chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys and current chaplain for the Dallas Mavericks. Only, that's all it says -- the reporter didn't contact Evans or his people. His administrative and executive assistants tell Unfair Park today that isn't the pastor's e-mail address. Because, see, "he does not have an e-mail address," says his administrative assistant -- not on the OCBFC Web site, not on Evans' Web site, not anywhere. No word on whether he even likes English Bulldogs, for that matter. --Robert Wilonsky
