With last night's shootout loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, the Dallas Stars remain on the outside looking in at the NHL's Western Conference playoffs. Nonetheless, everyone is watching hockey in Texas today.
Reason? The ugly brawl between Arlington Martin and Keller High School in the closing minute of their Texas Amateur Hockey Association state title game last Sunday at the Farmers Branch Dr Pepper StarCenter.
Keller won the game, 9-3. And, seemingly, Martin is a team of sour grapes who believes if you can't beat 'em, punch 'em.
On the video Martin player Jeff SoRelle came out of the penalty box to lay a hard, blindside hit on a Keller player against the boards. SoRelle was then punched by a Keller player, prompting Keller's Braxton Mills, who skated full speed from the other side of the rink to blindside SoRelle.
SoRelle and Mills are seniors and have been suspended from all USA Hockey-sanctioned events until an April 5 hearing. Hockey is not a UIL-sanctioned sport in Texas, and now we know why.
I can't believe I just wrote 142 words on high school hockey. Cheers.
