In what has become a really cool gesture by your Dallas Cowboys, the team will host its annual coaching clinic Friday at Texas Stadium. The clinic, which is free to all pre-registered coaches, will attract about 650 youth and middle-school coaches from Texas and six other states. So what will the coaches hear at the clinic? The Cowboys' philosophy, of course. But, not surprisingly, they won't get it from from head coach Bill Parcells.
While the Tuna conserves his energy for a summer with Terrell Owens in Oxnard, to-be-determined assistants and Dallas Desperados head coach Will McClay will lend their expertise to coaches tutoring beginner players. (Pass-happy Southlake Carroll's Todd Dodge likely wouldn't take too keenly to a Cowboys system that tries to milk 7-3 leads by running out the clock.) But hold on, there's more! Owner Jerry Jones will address the coaches during lunch in the Stadium Club, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and Desperados Dancers will be on hand, and each coach will receive a gift bag including two tickets to the team's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on August 31. Not a bad day for a young coach, if you don't mind standing outside in the 105-degree heat listening to a guy who coaches indoor football. --Richie Whitt
