Just received word that Dallas Park and Recreation officials have handed to city council members a memo in which it says that Jenny the elephant will not go to Mexico or Tennessee, but will, after weeks' worth of hand-wringing, stay in Dallas. More to come, as Unfair Park has been told we will receive the memo momentarily; we will post immediately. This much we do know: It was sent from Paul Dyer, director of the Park and Recreation Department, to Gregg Hudson, director of the Dallas Zoo.
This comes on the same day that Concerned Citizens for Jenny is planning an 11:30 a.m. media conference at City Hall to announce that "a formal protest has been filed with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to block the export of Jenny, the Dallas Zoo elephant, to Mexico." It was filed by Arlington attorney Don Feare. --Robert Wilonsky
Update: Here is the official media release concerning Dyer's decision. To come shortly, a lengthy interview with the Park and Recreation director concerning Jenny's remaining in Dallas.
