Two ways to deal with going 0-2 and coughing up a cool $385, thanks to closer-than-expected wins by Oklahoma and the Cowboys last weekend. One, I could take a breather. Or I can analyze from a unique angle -- like, oh, say, through the eyes of a memorabilia buff.
You know all the pertinent numbers heading into the Cowboys-Patriots much ballyhooed “Duel in Dallas.” High-scoring offenses with heartthrob quarterbacks and future Hall of Fame receivers and matching 5-0 records. But did you that Dallas leads New England 30,887 to 22,081? And that Tom Brady is worth $2,000 to Tony Romo’s $900? That’s according to the good folks at Dallas-based Beckett Media. Brady’s best card may be worth more than twice Romo’s best offering, but the Cowboys have 8,000 more cards floating out there in geekdom. Bottom line: Beckett says the Cowboys are more valuable, which, considering my slump, is good enough for me.
Give me the Cowboys plus the 6½.
I started with a mythical bankroll of $1,000, courtesy of Bodog sports online gaming. First, because their site http://www.bodoglife.com/sportsbook/ is easy to navigate. Second, because they’re based in Costa Rica and they’ve have had minimal success tracking me down in the past. I’ll analyze each Cowboys game and make a wager every Friday. With any luck, by Christmas it’ll be iPhones for everyone. STARTING BANKROLL: $1,000 SEASON RECORD: 2-4 CURRENT BANKROLL: $950 THIS WEEK: Cowboys +6½ over Patriots for $150. --Richie Whitt
