What’s the only thing less reliable than my picks? Wade Phillips’ 3-4 defense.

For a couple years now some smartass has been referring to Dallas’ unit as “Dumbsday.” Last week in coughing up 34 points to the Rams it was abysmal. And this week, despite Phillips taking over the defensive play-calling from Brian Stewart, I don’t see it getting drastically better.

Why? Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t Wade been in charge of this defense for two years now?

Dear Mr. Fix It,

It’s still broken.

Sincerely,

Broke.

With Brad Johnson at quarterback you know the Cowboys aren’t going top 21 points. Patrick Watkins is back and Phillips claims he’s going to restructure practice to make things a little more focused and physical, but I ain’t buying it.

TiVo don’t lie, and last week Greg Ellis got dominated and Chris Canty was shoved around and Zach Thomas couldn’t shake blockers and Anthony Henry was, well, Anthony Henry. Sorry, I see 4-4. And more losses until Tony Romo returns and Dallas regains the ability to outscore opponents.

I started with a mythical bankroll of $10,000, courtesy of Bodog sports online gaming. First of all, because their site is easy to navigate. Second, because they’re based in Costa Rica and have had minimal success tracking me down in the past.

I’ll analyze games/wagers of local interest each weekend and make a wager or two every Friday. With any luck, by Christmas it’ll be toys for everyone.

STARTING BANKROLL: $10,000 CURRENT BANKROLL: $3,000 SEASON RECORD: 2-6 LAST WEEK: 0-1 (- $1,000) THIS WEEK: Buccaneers +3 over Cowboys for $1,500. -- Richie Whitt
