Central Market announced today that its new store, at Preston and Royal in the old Borders location, will open on Wednesday, February 15 at 8 a.m. This will be the ninth store in the Texas-based chain. CM's serpentine-flow, European-style layout and bountiful selection of produce, seafood, cheese, wine and literally thousands of other items is unmatched in the Texas grocery store industry.
The Preston Hollow store is roughly 30,000 square feet, about half the space of the chain's other stores. To accommodate the space, they spent months studying the layout of grocery stores and delis in New York City. An augmented floor plan wasn't the only thing borrowed from NYC -- although we hear they had some local help, too.
This store will have a new selection of New York Deli-style dishes, boiled then baked bagels, new bialys, and NYC-based Charlito's Cocina artisan salumi. We've heard -- seriously -- that they actually consulted some neighborhood Jewish moms to help curate the store's selection. Best move ever.
Additionally, the new CM will offer a full-service custom sandwich bar, fresh-squeezed fruit and veggie juices, more than 400 cheeses, in-houses whole cuts of meat, and all the other usual amenities at other CM sites, including butchers and fish mongers.
And, yes, beer. You drunks.
