Jonathon's is simple to understand. Picture a young guy who cooked at Bread Winners and eventually decided he wanted to do his own thing with his wife. Jonathon and Christine Erdeljac opened their first restaurant two years ago, and in no time became the go-to place for breakfast for the entire Oak Cliff neighborhood.
If you doubt its popularity, just drive by during brunch on the weekends. The strollers and people twiddling their thumbs while they wait for a table are a testament to this place as a staple for locals.
Jonathon's is built on pancakes, chicken and waffles, and eggs with two sides, but a whimsical affinity for hunger busters of the highest order make this place a little more fun. Ask for the nooner, and if the timing is right you'll get a burger with so many heart-stopping toppings you'll re-think your choice before you even pick it up. The all-in-one waffle takes an innocent breakfast thing and tops it with a whole second breakfast.
Built into a tiny house, the place has plenty of charm, and when the weather is nice many spill out onto the patio to claim tables there. Not that the extra tables help with the wait for a table of your own. You're in Oak Cliff's most popular breakfast spot on a weekend. You'll have to be patient.
