Dallas' Most Interesting Restaurants No. 20: Campestre Chula Vista

Leading up to our annual Best of Dallas® issue, we're counting down the 50 most interesting restaurants in Dallas. These spots bring something unique or compelling to the city's dining scene, feeding both your appetite and soul.

Let's start by pointing out that the Fort Worth address at Campestre Chula Vista might preclude a restaurant from a list that's branded as the most interesting in Dallas. Now, let's ignore that statement. Campestra is a restaurant that's accessible to Dallasites, and it just may be the most interesting place on this list.

Owned and operated by the same folks who brought us Revolver Taco, Campestre delivers huge Oaxacan flavors and fresh tortillas lovingly pressed by hand. The restaurant is massive and located on a hill just outside of downtown Fort Worth. The views are wonderful, as the restaurant's name implies, and even better in the evening as the sun is setting.

Get the goat. An order belongs on every table and diners will fight over morsels until it's gone. The pork stewed in a verde sauce is just as good, as are the tacos that change daily, made with more of those lovely tortillas.

Get a margarita. They're big, strong and taste like drinks made by someone who doesn't embrace manufactured margarita shortcuts. Shortcuts are for wimps. Shortcuts are for diners who would rather eat at the Tex-Mex restaurant around the corner than drive a few miles to experience a meal they'll remember for a long while.

Don't take the shortcut. Besides, a trip to Campestre Chula Vista is a lot shorter than a trip to Oaxaca.
