Unless some generous Dallasite steps in to save it, this past weekend was the final few days of regular service for Deep Ellum "small plate dining" spot Twenty Seven. Chef/owner David Anthony Temple, previously known for his underground dinners, announced the restaurant's closure this weekend on social media:

Dear Friends and Family
I wanted to personally reach out to you and thank you for all the love and support that you have showed me over the years while I've been doing Underground Dinners and Twenty Seven. None of this would have been possible without you, my business partner Torrey Schoel, and the amazing team here at Twenty Seven. This will unfortunately be the FINAL WEEKEND that we will be open for normal service. I will be moving out of our 2901 Elm Street location in the heart of Deep Ellum May 1st unless we receive an angel investor or find a restaurateur that is interested in buying the concept. Please note that we are open this weekend and we would love for you to stop by and say hello. We will be hosting private events, parties, and pop-up dinner events at the restaurant for the remainder of the month.

Please let me know if you have any events (birthdays, anniversary's, family gatherings or work related events) that me and my team can cater for you either on location or offsite. We can plan underground dinners, private dinners at your home, and special events in the DFW area or nationwide. We will work to find the perfect space for your event.

I have spoken to my landlord and management company and they have told me if we can book enough events at the restaurant during the month of May and pay rent that we can keep the space for that month too. We diligently tried to adapt our concept by becoming restaurant forward and walk in ready. We departed from what really got us started, the Chef DAT Underground Dinners... we attempted and reinvested and adapted to our neighborhood by having a lower priced, user friendly menu and live music Thursday-Saturday night, all in an effort to keep bringing you delicious food and a great experience. We even did the first and only Hip Hop Brunch in DFW history with my mellow DJ EZ Eddie D...

I will be hosting an Underground Dinner next Friday night April 22nd on location (RSVP only $65/person) and will then throw a clean out the bar party Saturday April 23rd (open to the public) with live music, cheap drink specials, and free food buffet.
Twenty Seven opened in early 2015 in the space at  2901 Elm St. where Temple had previously hosted underground dinners. We've reached out to Temple for further comment and will report back if he responds.
