Fourth of July weekend, a time to grab a lawn chair, stock the cooler and sport American flag swag. We have a list of local spots that will be celebrating the long weekend by offering up fun, holiday-themed events.
On Friday, Nana, the upscale restaurant in the Hilton Anatole (2201 Stemmons Freeway), will celebrate Independence Day with some serious brews from San Diego's Stone Brewing Co., named the "All-Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth" by BeerAdvocate magazine. Chef Anthony Bombaci will whip up three plates highlighting casual American cuisine "with a twist," each complementing a Stone selection. Pairings will include chipotle-glazed chicken wings, corn, cilantro, lime and Basmati rice with Stone Cali-Belgique IPA; and bacon-cheddar Kobe sliders with chipotle chiles, paired with Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale. Part of Nana's regular Friday Night Flight series, the event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and costs $20 per person. For reservations, which are recommended, call 214-761-7470.
On Saturday, the Ginger Man Pub (2718 Boll St.) and Samuel Adams will celebrate Independence Day by releasing some specialty beers and giving away pints, while D-Snacks and The After School Special play live music on the patio. The party kicks off at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge.
This year's Frisco Freedom Fest will be held Saturday at Pizza Hut Park (Dallas North Tollway and Main Street) and Simpson Plaza, located in Frisco Square. Frisco restaurants will be serving a variety of bites, including hot dogs, burgers, pizza, barbecue and Cajun cuisine, and food items range from $1 to $6. The party runs from 4 until 10 p.m. and will end with a fireworks display.
The Grapevine Wine Trail is celebrating the 4th of July on Saturday. Wine drinkers are invited to make the trek from winery to winery for wine tastings and nibbles. Participating wineries include Cross Timbers, D'Vine Wine, Farina's, Homestead, La Bodega, La Buena Vida Vinyard and Suo Vino. Tickets costs $45 per person in advance, or $50 at the door. Those looking to take a dip this weekend are invited to celebrate the good ol' United States of America at the Belmont Hotel's pool (901 Fort Worth Ave.). The pool will be open to the public on Sunday and Monday from 1 until 10 p.m. The poolside bar will offer drinks, while SMOKE grills up hamburgers and hot dogs from 6 until 10 p.m. both evenings.
Addison Circle Park (15650 Addison Road) is celebrating Independence Day on Sunday with its annual fireworks extravaganza, Kaboom Town. The highly rated firework celebration -- it's been rated one of the top places to watch fireworks in the country by the American Pyrotechnics Association, USA Today, Travel + Leisure and The Wall Street Journal -- takes place from 5 p.m. until midnight. The fireworks can be seen from many of Addison's restaurants, some of which will be partaking in the festivities and hosting firework watching parties. Some restaurants participating include The Back 9, Chammpps, Dukes original Roadhouse, Elite Cigar Café, Genghis Grill, Kampai Sushi & Grill and the Quarter.
On Monday The Libertine Bar (2101 Greenville Ave.) will host its annual corndog-eating contest. Hungry folks are invited to scarf down as many dogs as they can, and compete for bar tabs and cash. First prize is a $100 bar tab, second is a $50 tab and third is $25 in quarters. The competition kicks off at 7 p.m. Monday at The Libertine Bar, 2101 Greenville Ave. Sign up at the bar or by calling 214-824-7900.
Fair Park is hosting a 4th of July bash on Monday July 4. The event runs from 4:30 until 10 p.m. and is free to the public. Guests are welcome to bring picnics, and concessions will be sold. There will be several performances throughout the night and a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
