Self-serve doughnut bars, aged Gouda mac 'n' cheese in Richardson, Nosh closes and more in this week's round-up of DFW food news:
  • Iron Fork was Wednesday night, and it was awesome. Blind Butcher's Oliver Sitrin bested Julia Pearl's Jermaine Brown in the chef throwdown, and Buku Modernist Cuisine won best booth. Here's a rundown and a slideshow of the event.
  • The Pavilion Center on Lovers Lane will get a new restaurant in May, according to CultureMap: Texas Scratch Kitchen, which will focus on home-style eats. "Signature items include ginger wild salmon, braised barbecue beef short ribs, pork T-bone, and chicken-fried steak," Teresa Gubbins writes.
  • DFW just can't get enough doughnuts, apparently, since we're getting yet another doughnut spot. Crunch Donut Factory will bring a "self-serve doughnut bar" to Arlington, CultureMap reports. Expect a "Chipotle-like assembly line" that will enable customers to custom-order their morning dose of sugar.
  • In Kent Rathbun news, the Richardson location of "gourmet backyard cuisine" restaurant Jasper's will open May 2 in CityLine, at 1251 State St. Chef Evan Tanner will lead the kitchen, according to a press release. "Diners can expect to enjoy the same delicious menu from the Plano location, including wood-fired flat breads, hearty salads like the popular Chopped Wedge, pan-seared fish and Slow Smoked Baby Back Ribs, named one of Bon Appetit's top three choices for 'America's Best Ribs,'" the press release reads. "To complement those dishes are everyone’s favorite sides like the famous Maytag Blue Cheese Potato Chips and Aged Gouda Mac 'n' Cheese."
  • A "secret mezcal bar" that opened quietly (very quietly) on Davis Street in Bishop Arts is already moving on, according to a Las Almas Rotas Facebook post:
Well friends, it looks like this will be the last weekend that Las Almas Rotas will be in the space on Davis, so we've decided to have a Mezcal Cartel party the way we used to do it when we started this crazy ride. So if you would like to come, this Saturday night bring a bottle of mezcal to share and some food if you can and we'll have one last evening in this special place. And don't be too sad. This isn't the end for Las Almas Rotas. We'll start around 8pm.
  • Nosh Bistro and Bar is throwing in the towel after nine months, DMN reports. There's already something in the works for that space, apparently: Sallio Bistro, opening soon. According to DMN, owner Jeff Armand isn't saying much about what the new spot will serve.
  • Nebraska eatery Blatt Beer & Table is now open in Preston Village, according to a Facebook post. They're offering an all-day happy hour through May 1 to celebrate. The "pub food restaurant and craft beer bar" has a pretty eclectic menu with dishes like Bavarian pretzel bites, falafel sliders and chicarones.
  • Airy Oak Cliff breakfast spot Oddfellows is now open for dinner six days a week. Their new hours, according to a Facebook post: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. They'll serve breakfast items all day, which bodes well for anyone who loves those biscuits and gravy as much as we do.
