Wednesdays in January El Ranchito, 610 W. Jefferson Blvd., will host Elvis tributes and impersonations every Wednesday in January. Kraig Parker, who has been referred to as "the ultimate image of Elvis," will shake things up on January 9 and 23. Then, on January 16 and 30 the floor will be open to patrons for El Ranchito's Elvis Contest. It cost $10 to get into the shows and $5 for the competition.
Sunday, January 13 Shake for Second Base is a fund raising event hosted by some of Dallas' finest lady bartenders at Sissy's Southern Kitchen this Sunday. In addition to toasting to women's place in the service industry, 100 percent of proceeds will be donated directly to a breast cancer research fund. A $10 cover will get you some fried chicken and a cocktail. Plus, there will be an auction to bid on "an hour-long cocktail date with some local barmen and ladies.' The event starts at 6:00 p.m.
Highland Park Cafeteria will host the director of the new George W. Bush Presidential Library, Alan Love, at 5 p.m. Sunday. The event is free and open to the public, plus everyone gets free chicken pot pie, which happens to be one of the ex-president's favorite dishes. Love will speak on the mission and plans for the library, preview future events and report on how the public can stay involved, although we don't see how any of us can be better involved than by eating free chicken pot pie. Wednesday, January 16 Next Wednesday The Grape on Greenville will serve up the first ever "Grape Beer-Paired Dinner," using brew from Lakewood Brewing Co. Chef de duisine Danyele McPherson will create a menu using Rock Ryder, Hop Trapp, The Temptress and Lakewood Lager. The dinner is $55 per person, excluding tax, gratuity and other beverages. Thursday, January 17 Chef Graham Dodds at Central 214 will host a goat and beer dinner using a few Texas favorites including Windy Hill Organics and Real Ale Brewing Co. The menu includes glazed goat cheeks, goat rillette, milk braised goat shoulder and slow-cooked goat shank, each paired with a different brew. Reserve a table here.
Two events you might want to book ahead for is the Community Beer Co. grand opening tour on January 19, and The Hypnotic Donut Dash 5K on January 26. It cost $30 to register ($15 for kids) and you'll need to be able to run 5 kilometers and stop to eat doughnut holes five times. We tell you now so you can start training.
