The Ricky Bobby Sports Saloon and Restaurant has opened on NE Loop 820 in Fort Worth. This NASCAR-themed restaurant is no Applebee's for darn sure, but it'll do. And since we all watch Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby each and every opportunity we get, we know the wonderful potential a restaurant based on the movie has. This looks like a place Ricky and Cal would be proud of, even if you'll never find them there.
James Watkins is with RCI Incorporated out of Houston, which owns the new restaurant. With the movie being trademarked and all, they can't use direct quotes or anything from the movie, he says. But since proper names can't be trademarked, they used it.
"It's really just a play off things," explains Watkins.
There are TVs at almost every table and they'll have a regular rotation of sporting events, including NASCAR, obviously. Watkins says despite the waitress' not especially fabric-filled outfits, they want it to be family-friendly. Ricky Bobby would definitely bring Walker and Texas Ranger.
The good folks of Ricky Bobby Sports Saloon posted their menu of Facebook, but it's too small to read. I tried to enlarge it but it got too fuzzy, which is somehow perfect. The food looks gut bomb-ish: Think huge burgers with thick slices of bacon and a sandwich with a knife stabbed through the middle, reminiscent of Ricky Bobby's self-inflicted stab wound to the leg. There's also cotton candy and snow cone treats for adults.
Ricky Bobby has a large outdoor bar space for live music, a decorative waterfall made with car mufflers and chandeliers made with construction lights.
Ricky Bobby Sports Saloon is open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week.
