Thursday evenings are good for doing life stuff -- washing the car, balancing the check book, the sort of activities that lend themselves to the steady drumbeat of functional adulthood.
This Thursday, though, why not forgo those things in lieu of eating many foods and drinking much beer? Grace will pair five Revolver beers with five courses, including Thai style curried catfish with Sidewinder, house made guinea fowl wurst with High Brass and Blood and Honey with carrot cake. As part of the conversation surrounding school breakfast programs, nonprofit Children at Risk has invited six area chefs to prepare breakfast for dinner "using the same budget and nutritional guidelines given to schools." Presumably, the end results will be delicious, ambitious examples of just how good food can be in spite of limited resources. But so help me God, they better not leave Fortified Pancake Dunkin' Strips off the menu. Tickets are $150.

When I think of a feast, I envision a portly 15th century ruler in tights, bandying a turkey drumstick in the air while rambling on about which peasant was going to get the axe next. BeerFeast is going to be just like that, only minus the punishing class division and with more hops. Over 40 breweries will be there, touting 60 lovingly hand-crafted beers. Each general admission ticket includes entry, a 12 sample tasting card and a BeerFeast glass that you can take home and show your cat. GA tickets are $35 in advance or $45 on the day-of. VIP tickets cost $65.

This Sunday, the Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival is busting out the chicharrón. Tacos & Taps will feature all-you-can-eat tacos from 11 local restaurants, including A F + B Fort Worth, Mariposa's Latin Kitchen and Velvet Taco and beer tastings from 22 breweries such as Lakewood, 4 Corners and Rahr. Tickets are $60 and BYOS (Bring Your Own Sombrero) is encouraged.

Normally, spending money on an unknown quantity -- particularly the gastronomic variety -- is not advisable. There are simply too many Long John Silvers on this good earth to run the risk. Were House of Plates and Café Momentum to be responsible for the mystery food, then and only then would the possibility of culinary delights outweigh the risk of geometrically-shaped fish planks. Which is why we are giving you a head start. Tickets for Nighthawks, an underground dining event, go on-sale Wednesday, October 15. Rumor has it they will sell out, so if you want to nosh on a five course menu prepared by Chad Houser while Sarah Jaffe spins some sweet, sweet tunes then you'd better be on your ate-game.
