Fast N' Loud is a TV show on the Discovery Channel (Mondays at 8) in which hosts Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufmann of Dallas-based Gas Monkey Garage find forgotten classic cars and give them new life and then some. Being acute businessmen, they've expanded their brand to a full-service restaurant, bar and music venue at 10261 Technology Blvd, between Stemmons Frwy and Loop 12.
The large venue has two split-level outdoor decks, a large indoor dining space, and indoor and outdoor bars. Everything here, like their cars, is fast and loud. The El Jefe burger is made with an onion jam, pork rind fried jalapeños, cheddar, "house" bacon and a fried quail egg. A side of collard greens is cooked in a Texas Pale Ale; there are red chile grits and bacon battered chicken fried steaks (with bacon cream gravy).
Texas Post Oak smoked meats sold by the pound are served with "monkey sauce" or (512) Pecan Porter barbecue sauce. The proteins include a sea salt and black pepper-rubbed black angus brisket and coffee ancho black angus short ribs.
There's lighter fare, but that seems really pansy at this point. Salads and sandwiches (pork, chicken and brisket) and some appetizers. Sprinkled throughout the menu are some interesting plates, perhaps upscale bar food, like the Pan de Campo that comes red chili cilantro pesto, red onion, beefsteak tomato, house made bacon and goat cheese.
Gas Monkey has been working out all the kinks with slow openings the past two weeks. Hopefully, they're already at full-throttle mode. On September 21, the Old 97's will play at Gas Monkey, followed by Hank III on October 3 and the Misfits on November 6.
So, if Gas Monkey gets a show, when can we book a table at Duck Dynasty Diner? Or Honey Boo-Boo's Hot Mess? Mark Cuban's Shark Tank, anyone?
