Forget sleeping in late, then eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast while watching reruns of Full House this Saturday, because it's the 31st Annual Greenville St. Patrick's Day Parade. You'll have all day Sunday to do that plus recover from Saturday's festivities. This year a few of our favorite restaurants being featured in the parade are Ozona's Grill & Bar, Hooters, Cowboy Chow, Twisted Root Burger Co. and Desperados. You wouldn't want to miss seeing what they throw off their float, now would you?
To help gear up for the parade madness, our Dallas Observer street team will be holding two Countdown to St. Patrick's Day events at Hooters this week. On Wednesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. the teamers will be at the Hooters in Grapevine handing out goodies along with drawing 25 names for tickets to the St. Patrick's Day Parade After Party at the Granada. If you miss them on Wednesday, you can also catch them on Thursday, March 11, at the West End's Hooters location from 6-8 p.m.
Also, on Friday, March 12, the Observer will be holding a happy hour at Stan's Blue Note from 5-7:30 p.m. to help raise money for the G.A.A.B.A. (Greenville Avenue Area Business Association). The event will also raise funds for those who lost their jobs due to the four-alarm fire that destroyed Terilli's, Mick's, Hurricane Grill, Greenville Bar & Grill last Tuesday morning. ALDI, a new discount grocer will be making a North Texas debut next week with not one opening, but 11 spread across Dallas, Fort Worth, Garland, Frisco, and Hurst. The new grocer will feature high-quality products that will be 30 to 40 percent less than your traditional supermarket. Watch out Tom Thumb. Leading up to the grand opening of all locations on Thursday, March 18, ALDI will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 15-17, Monday through Wednesday at various locations. The ceremony will include ribbon-cutting city officials (they take a course in that prior to being sworn in), a tour of the store, sampling of products, and gift bag giveaways. We aren't the only ones preparing for St. Patrick's Day, Paciugo Gelato & Caffè will be featuring three beer-infused gelato flavors, Guinness Irish Stout, Beer Chill, and Chocolate Guinness, from now until March 17. Paciugo wants you to know that the flavors are still kid-friendly with only having 0.5 percent alcohol per serving. Great for the kiddos, sucks for the adults.
