Do you have plans this weekend to recover from last weekend's Memorial Day madness? Why not continue with the summer fun by drinking more alcohol and eating fatty foods?

Flying Saucer on the Lake will host its first Spring Beer Festival from noon till 10 p.m. this Saturday, June 5. The festival will feature five beer-tasting tents with four different beers at each: Dogfish Head Palo Santa Marron, Widmer Brothers' Reserve Prickly Pear Braggot, Real Ale Highlander and Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale.

Admissionis free, but if you fork over $15 you will receive a commemorative taster glass and a card  that can be redeemed for 10 samples the featured beers. For an additional $5, you can sample from the Out of this World tent. Flying Saucer will also offer beer brats, kraut and Bavarian pretzels for purchase.

Also going on this week....

Latin soul-inspired restaurant Jokes & Jazz will celebrate its grand opening every day this week. From  May 31-June 6, the new eatery, which hosts live jazz music and comedy shows weekly, will  kick off its arrival in Desoto by either having a comedian or musician perform every night. Jokes & Jazz offers items such as fried green tomatoes, blackened redfish with cheddar jalapeno grits, the Soulful Salad with fried chicken livers, and much more.

This Thursday, June 3, is the day for the First Thursdays Wine Walk in the Bishop Arts District. You can stroll up and down Bishop Avenue purchasing glasses of wine for $5 at each of the tents set up along the street. For more information, visit www.bishopartsdistrict.com

Go Fish Ocean Club will offer complimentary sushi rolls every Thursday night. There's a pretty gentle catch, though: You must purchase a cocktail. No worries, they're offering $5 drinks like sake bombs, martinis and wine. Drink and sushi roll for $5 doesn't sound too bad.
