It's always hard to go back to work after Thanksgiving, especially if you spent the last few days chilling out in your Snuggie like we did. Before you polish off that cherry pie, check out what's happening this week at these restaurants. We also have suggestions for how to dispose of cooking oil this holiday season because we're cool like that. Honestly, we just didn't know what to do with the 6 gallons of oil left over from frying our turkey last week.
It opened last month, but The Nodding Donkey is hosting a grand opening celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday, and the party goes on through the weekend. The restaurant will have drink specials through Sunday, plus games and giveaways. With most dishes priced less than $10, you won't blow your budget on burgers and beer. How very un-Uptown.

It's the season of giving at many local restaurants. If you want to make a child's holiday brighter this year, head to Hypnotic Donuts this Saturday for the Toys for Donuts toy drive. Bring a new, unwrapped toy that will be donated to Children's Medical City and receive a free doughnut. We know you don't need a sweet reward to help children who won't be home for the holidays this year, but never turn down a free doughnut. That's just wrong.
Ziziki's is also feeling the spirit of giving. All locations will be collecting unwrapped toys, books and gift cards starting today. The donations will go to Family Gateway, a nonprofit that assists homeless families. The toy drive continues through December 12. While you're there, pick us up a couple of gyros.
Tonight, The Green Room will be raising money for former chef James Pitzer. Earlier this month, Pitzer's home in Washington state burned down, but he has loyal friends, including many chefs, who will be at The Green Room tonight. Randall Copeland of Restaurant Ava and David Uygur will be just two of the chefs creating a five-course dinner with wine pairings. Get your reservations soon, folks, because this dinner has limited seating. Tickets to the Put Out Pitzer Fire Fundraiser are $85 a person.
Have you been pouring cooking oil and grease down the kitchen sink for years? Stop right now! Not only is this bad for the pipes in your home, but all that gunk ends up clogging up the city sewerage as well. That's why both Dallas and Carrollton are offering free cooking oil and grease disposal. Today and tomorrow, you can recycle all that oil at the city of Carrollton Central Service Center (2711 Nimitz Lane). Dallas is also offering free grease and oil disposal services at seven locations including the Green Spot and Richland College. The service is available through December, and you'll receive two free tickets to the Trains at NorthPark Center if you bring a liter of used oil to Elliott's Hardware or the Dallas Farmers Market on Saturdays. There's an incentive to eat more bacon and fried chicken.
