Marshall Grain Co. is a gardening and supply store that's been in business in North Texas since 1914. They started as a true farm-type store, but in the '80s found a niche in the organic gardening business. This weekend the store is hosting two classes, "Seeding Your Fall Garden," with master gardner Julie Whitis.
I know we've been talking about planting a garden forever. Turns out, fall is the best time to get started. According to Marshall Grain, "preparing your beds in advance gives the earth time to lie fallow and store up energy ..."
Marshall Grain has everything you need to start a box planter or tear up your entire yard. The first class on Saturday is at 10:30 a.m. at the store's Fort Worth location (2224 E. Lancaster). Then, a second class will be held at the Grapevine location at 1:00 p.m. (3525 William D. Tate). The classes are free, so just show up.
They'll cover everything from soil preparation, composts to fertilizers and starting a garden from seedlings. Additionally, they're having a big sale this weekend.
