As you surely know, 'tis the weekend before Fat Tuesday. Gluttony will run rampant in the streets as we, and everyone in New Orleans, prepare for 40 days of sacrifice that begin on Ash Wednesday. (Or maybe you focus on just the gluttony part? That's cool, too.)

On Sunday, Poor David's Pub on Lamar will host KNON's 12th annual Mardi Gras Gumbo Party. The competitors this year are returning champ Chef Ivan Pugh of Alligator Café, Louisiana Red, Offshores Nextdoor, Crawdads of Dallas and Fish City Grill.

The crowd determines the winner by how obnoxious they get. All in good mardi gras fun. The gumbo tasting is 5 to 7 p.m. and tickets are $15.
