Here's pulling for great weather next Friday. Students from the culinary program at the Art Institute of Dallas are planning an outdoor event to raise money for Patriot PAWS. The nonprofit organization provides service dogs free of charge to disabled veterans. The event will pit two teams from the culinary school in a Top Chef-style event sponsored by Grand Hall USA and Barbecues Galore.
Retired Marine Corps Master Sergeant John J. Eager is a member of the Student Veterans Association at the culinary school. He's leading up one of two teams that will compete for glory in the outdoor cooking competition.
Eager enrolled in the culinary program at the art institute because he wants to open up a sandwich shop in Dallas and desires a firm culinary background to help ensure his success. Eager is from the Bronx, so he knows his sandwiches. And if he can bring Dallas a decent New York-style sandwich shop, I'm willing to bet he'll have a lot of success.
As expected, Eager's team is making sandwiches from pounded pork tenderloins for the event. The second team will be grilling up flat iron steaks. If you attend you can try both team's work for free and then help vote for the winner. Sounds like a decent day of work to me.
If you're wondering how the event will raise money, Barbecues Galore will be selling grills at the event at a discount, with all of the proceeds going to Patriot PAWS. There will also be a raffle to win a grill or other products from participating sponsors.
