Saint Arnold Brewing Co., the oldest craft brewery in Texas, is releasing the next beer in its Icon series this Wednesday. Icon Green is an Amarillo hefeweizen made with two-row barley and Vienne and Cara-Munich malts.
"This is a refreshing summer beer for Texas and Louisiana that has the base of a hefeweizen with the surprise of the Amarillo hops," said Saint Arnold founder Brock Wagner. "The spice of the yeast combines with the orange and spruce flavors of the hops to create a beer that you would swear actually had spice and fruit added to it, but it is just an artful combination of malt, hops, yeast and water."
This particular icon label is part of a line of seasonally rotating beers that are released quarterly (or sooner if they run out of one) and are distinguished with a metallic label. The first, Icon Red, a Belgian pale ale, was released in December 2012, followed by Icon Blue, a Cascadian dark ale, in March.
The beer will be available in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles and on tap in bars and restaurants throughout Texas and Louisiana beginning later this week. Upcoming beers in the Icon series include a Bohemian pils in September and then a bière de saison, which will replace 2012's Belgian-style pale ale.
