The Taste of Dallas opens tomorrow for three days of 'too hot to eat anything,' 'I've had enough of this cover band,' 'what's Darryl Dawkins doing over there' fun.

Organizers bill it as the largest free festival in Texas--which, of course, means it costs you nothing to walk around (unlike other days). Doesn't cost much to sample from some 40 area restaurants, though. There's plenty to drink, lots of noise and a few sideshow events, such as an NBA dunk contest and a DFW's Got Talent thing sponsored by NBC 5.

Participating restaurants include Gator's Croc N Roc and Chamberlain's Steak & Chophouse--and all kinds in between, mostly leaning toward the Croc N Roc end of the scale. It runs Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. in the West End.
