The Common Table Drops Beer Prices, Declares Tuesday "Brewsday" With Mikkeller Single Hop Series

Good news for cash-strapped beer lovers who were having a bit of trouble justifying a $15 pint (imperial 20-oz pour notwithstanding) at The Common Table: General manager and beer expert Jeff Fryman has adjusted prices on a few of the selections to bring them more in line with comparable beer pubs.

Adding to the break is the "Brewsday" special, which kicks off today. All 20-ounce drafts are $2 off and all beer flights are $3 off all day Tuesday. Making the day even more special for beer geeks is the plan to tap a special new brew at 5 p.m. each Tuesday. The inaugural Common Table Brewsday, which began moments ago, also promises to be an educational experience for hop lovers, as the bar will tap four beers from Mikkeller's Single Hop IPA series: Nelson Sauvin, Cascade, Centennial and Chinook. "Mikkeller is like a cult star in beer," Fryman said. "I thought it would be cool to start with this."

As for the pricing change, Fryman at first justified his establishment's higher prices compared with Henderson-area places by noting that he was trying to bring in a different clientele, one that was savoring rather than chugging brewskis. But after seeing criticism online and in his e-mail inbox, he eventually decided to make a spreadsheet and research pricing at other beer-centric places. He ultimately brought The Common Table's prices more in line with places like The Old Monk. "I just equaled it out," he said. "Some of their prices are higher on some beers, some of ours are higher on some beers." While some prices stayed the same, Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous ale dropped by $4 down to $11 under the new scheme, and other beers had similar adjustments.

In fact, he even brought 10-ounce prices of several craft beers such as Dale's Pale Ale, Stone Smoked Porter and Saint Arnold Lawnmower and Weedwacker down to $4. That's a buck less than the 12-oz prices of macro lagers like Budweiser, Michelob Ultra and Corona -- and a bold move that we'd love to see more beer-centric bars make.
