The Dallas Independent School District appears to be on the verge of a completely unnecessary rewrite of its greatest success stories as the board votes whether to gut the staff of the district's magnet school and learning center programs at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Believe it or not, though, some good will come out of the day--though, of course, it's nothing for which the trustees can take any credit.

Big Thought is a Dallas non-profit organization that serves some 300,000 students and teachers with creative learning programs inside and outside the classroom and during the summer. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, revelers at The Crescent Spring Celebration can enjoy live music, culinary creations from Rosewood Crescent Hotel's award-winning chefs and guest chefs, auctions, a fashion show and more--all while helping raise funds for Big Thought's DISD After-School system. Guests can also contribute to a Big Thought mosaic and tour a gallery exhibit of the photography of young artists.

Tickets--which are 100 percent tax-deductible--are $75 at 866-228-3243. More information and online reservations are available here.
