Martin House Brewing in Fort Worth is launching a new session beer, Gateway XPA, today at The Bearded Lady in Fort Worth. The name pays homage to a trail near the brewery along the Trinity. The beers pays homage to sessions, which in the beer world implies the ability to drink a few over and still be to produce decent work. This standard was established in England during WWI for shell production workers.
Gateway XPA is an eXtra Pale Ale (see that?) that will be available at all the usual suspects soon; most craft beer bars and restaurants carry Martin House on tap. The Magnolia Cheese Co. of Fort Worth will also be out at The Bearded Lady pairing Martin House beer with their cheeses.
Deep Ellum Brewing Co. also has a pretty exciting release this weekend. They've partnered with Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters for a coffee beer aptly named Oak Cliff Coffee Ale. DEBC sourced coffee beans through Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters which suggested the Panamanian Carmen variety, which is grown at a farm that OCCR has worked with extensively. After OCCR roasted the beans, DEBC ground the coffee and made a cold brew. The coffee simmered for a few days, then it was added it to DEBC's beer. Oak Cliff Coffee Ale is 7.5-percent ABV and Hunt says it is the "best beer he's ever had a hand in making."
The official launch is this Sunday during brunch at The Outpost on Beckley. Chef Tim Byres of Smoke is serving three courses and three beers for $30. There are still tickets available for the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. seatings.
