A new wine venue unlike any other in Dallas, Wine Poste (2001 Irving Blvd., Ste. 145), has opened in the burgeoning Design District. James Jordan, a local wine industry veteran of 30 years, and Matthew Thompson, a certified sommelier and wine writer, are leading the charge in this new concept that serves as both a retail spot and entertainment venue. Oh, and they also take online orders.
"We're really totally different than a normal wine shop. We wanted to create a place with great wine and food," Thompson says. "We created Wine Poste for that overall experience."
So, can you swing by after work for a bottle of red? Absolutely.
"Even though we're not set up with rows of racks, we technically operate as a normal retail storefront," Thompson explained. "It's just that we keep all of our wine in a climate controlled cooler that is 300 square feet to keep the pedigree of the bottles."
The Wine Poste also has an online shop and will ship via UPS ground for a flat $5 rate and the "more you buy the more you save."
As far as the event space, there are three different wine tasting and entertaining areas, called the Lounge, Library and Banquet Room, which all can be rented individually or as one. The place looks more like a swank flat of someone with a fondness for dinner parties than either an "event space" or "retail shop."
Wine Poste just opened this week, and they are working on setting up some tastings, which will typically be on Saturdays and Wednesdays (follow on Facebook or sign up for their newsletter for details) and eventually they'd like to host wine dinners. But, for now they are retail and online, as they must walk before they run. And all that talk of walking and running just makes me thirsty.
