  • Reminder: Gorilla Vs. Bear Previews The New Animal Collective Disc At The Cavern Tonight

Sorry for the slow blog day, folks. As one commenter already put it, things have been quite slow around town of late. Oh well. Things get better soon, though. Like, say, tonight, at the Cavern, for instance, where Chris Cantalini of the Dallas-based tastemaking blog Gorilla Vs. Bear, will be hosting DFW's leg of the national listening party (sans band, of course) for Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion disc, which Pitchfork has already reviewed and tagged with an impressive, if predic

  • This Just In: St. Vincent's Still Incredible.

Yesterday over at GvB, Chris Cantalini posted a clip of DFWd's own St. Vincent privately performing her song "Marry Me" for the folks of Shoot The Player at the Sydney Festival. It's a hell of a video--and not just because Annie Clark takes the time to perform a gorgeous stripped-down rendition of the song in the clip; she also uses it to riff on Luby's Cafeteria's elderly patrons to some clueless Aussies.Unfortunately, the above video--the second in the series of two clips, this one of her perf

  • St. Vincent's Actor Set For May 5 Release

Annabel Mehran 4AD has announced the release date of St. Vincent's sophomore release, Actor, and, as the header to this post implies, we can expect the disc about two and a half months from now. The disc, produced here in Dallas by The Paper Chase's John Congleton, also features North Texas musicians McKenzie Smith and Paul Alexander (both of Midlake) and Jeff Ryan (of Pleasant Grove and currently performing with Sarah Jaffe). No music from the disc appears available yet, but Chris Cantalini of t

  • Video: Watch Bosque Brown Perform "Phone Call"

Earlier this afternoon at Gorilla vs. Bear, Chris Cantalini posted the above video of Bosque Brown frontwoman Mara Lee Miller and her sister/pianist Gina Milligan performing the song "Phone Call" off of her just-released album, Baby. It was shot by Spiral Diner executive chef James M. Johnston in the home of Curtis Heath (of The Theater Fire fame). Heath also apparently sound engineered the video, which shows off Miller's live performance prowess quite well. Oh, and for those curious: This isn't

  • So, This Latest VEGA Single Is Pretty Great.

Richard Card Probably the worst hiding spot I've ever seen.I'm not going to pretend this is exclusive news or anything; I just wanted to say something. Over on Gorilla Vs. Bear yesterday, Chris Cantalini offered up his readers a free download of the latest VEGA track, a song called "No Reasons" (download after link), which should be included on the Well Known Pleasures EP the band is releasing later this month. (For the record, that's quite the milestone for frontman Alan Palomo; his Ghos

  • Sick Of The Jonases? This Won't Help.

Listen up satellite radio fans. Or don't, maybe. But, either way, be warned: All weekend long, Westlake's Jonas Brothers will be all up in your radio, broadcasting directly into your home on Sirius XM radio.Earlier today, the Jonases joined up with Sirius Channel 1's morning show, talking about their record. But there's more, of course: Tomorrow, they'll host the channel's Weekend Countdown; and, later in the weekend, they'll host the channel's show Hit-Bound. Which, essentially just means that,

  • Poster Of The Week: St. Vincent At The Granada Theater

Gorilla Vs. Bear contributor David Bartholow created this poster using an image from Land of Nicholas Copernicus by Michal Rusinek and featuring photos by Magdalena Rusinek-Kwilecka. "I typically gather a few images that I believe are appropriate for the particular show, apply the type treatments, and subsequently present them to site founder and editor-in-chief, Chris Cantalini, who then selects a final from that batch," he explains in an e-mail. "Rather simply, we liked the image and thought i

  • The New Hotness: GorillaVsBearcore

Look what you've started, Alan.Yesterday, a new Neon Indian remix of The Silent League's "Here's a Star" started popping up across the great taste-making sites of these United States, further pushing the buzzworthiness of Alan Palomo's most recent project. And, par for course with most of the music of this realm, the buzz on this all started with a posting by Dallas' own Chris Cantalini on his Gorilla Vs. Bear blog. It's a nice track, sure, but what's pretty funny about it all is that no one's

  • Gig Alert: Neon Indian at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios

No need to be shy, Alan.At the risk of beating you over the head with this information, it seems worth our while to remind you that tonight marks the much-anticipated debut of Alan Palomo's newest project, Neon Indian, which has garnered praise from outlets far beyond us and the normal local music press.Tonight's We Shot JR-sponsored show, which will also feature Darktown Strutters, Kashioboy and Vulgar Fashion and, an as-yet-undertermined DJ, was originally scheduled to take place in the bas
