Subject: Giggle Party

  • Picture Show: Making Out With The Happy Bullets

Daniel DaughertyThe Happy Bullets brought in a whole bunch of friends to Space on Friday night in its attempt to break a world record/shoot a music video for its new single "Fuck Yeah, I'm In Love With You". Giggle Party was there; The King Bucks were there, too. And so were a bunch of goofballs and kissers. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that any records were broken.Oh well. Check out Daniel Daugherty's slideshow of the event either way.

Fight NightThe Schoolhouse, DentonSeptember 5, 2009Better than: shooting bourbon in an actual schoolhouse.Danny FulgencioGiggle Party, along with a baker's dozen of other acts, played The Schoolhouse on Saturday. Peruse our slideshow of the day's events. Nestled away from the venues of Denton's idyllic Square and Fry Street's controversy, the Schoolhouse is a deceptively ordinary one-story yellow and white residence. But Saturday, at around 3 p.m., as a slew of musicians rolled or lugged thei

...and for y'all who are still stuck on Youtube, take your link.Austin's The Rocketboys, once upon a time, were known as Homer Hiccolm & the Rocketboys, and, at that point, they were based out of Abilene. That alone, actually, makes them the best formerly-mispelled-October Sky-referencing band ever to come out of Abilene--without question, really. Surely, that has to keep the band members warm at night.Fortunately, the band's got some legs to stand on in addition to the above distinction. Am

...and for the people who only watch videos on Youtube, your link.Quite the time last Wednesday night at our weekly DC9 in SPACE taping, as the crazy kids in Giggle Party stopped on by SPACE Studio with a couple friends and props in tow. Among those props? Black cloaks, silver masks, silly string, confetti, malt liquor and cupcakes. Why all that? Well, you'll find out in the clip above. But let's just say that the band wanted to make sure that our DC9 video wasn't going to be forgotten in the w

  • Tracklist: The Local Hang With Playlister P, Vol. 2

Thanks again to all who stopped by The Libertine last night for the second installment of my monthly local music sermon called The Local Hang. The plan was pretty simple: No repeats from last month. But, oh well, I screwed that up--like embarrassingly early on, too, actually, if you wanna compare last night's list (posted after the jump) to the list of songs played at the inaugural incarnation. But I think there was only the one repeat; for the most part, this was unique set when compared to l

Sooner or later, I'll get a real logo. Many, many, many thanks to all those who showed at The Libertine last night for the third installment of my little first-Monday-of-every-month residency there called The Local Hang with Playlister P. It was quite the grand ol' time. And a successful one, too--mostly because it featured the biggest turnout so far in this little event's three-month history, which ain't too shabby a feat, I don't think. Anyway, thanks again to those who came out. Whether you

Speaking of Kettle Art ...I noticed that on his blog yesterday, U.K.-based illustrator Damien Weighill posted a note that he's all set to make his Dallas debut at Frank Campagna's Deep Ellum gallery. The exhibition runs January 28 through February 2, but on the 30th, Weighill will be joined by Giggle Party, for whom he co-directed the brilliantly NSFW video for "Jason Bought a Hatchet," which, in mid-June of '09, Pete proclaimed "the best video of the year," just maybe. I sent Weighill a note

Either way, it sure bears repeating: Damien Weighill, the man behind the oh-so-awesome video for Giggle Party's "Jason Bought a Hatchet" will be stopping through town at the end of the month, putting his art--which mostly exists in the same vein as the toungue-in-cheek pop art of the video--up for show (and sale, too) at Kettle Art in Deep Ellum. And joining Weighill at the show's Saturday, January 30, op

Misery loves company, you know? Best artwork in town, still.Looks like the often out-of-control Giggle Party has started to to throw a little more organization onto its plate: Today, the band debuted its new song "Big Bang" on its new site, partytodeath.com. It's all part of a plan the group is calling the "Party to Death Project," in which, once a week (a la Damaged Good$ a bit, only more frequently), on every Tuesday, the band will release a song for free 24-hour download on its site, right up until its full-length debut

Today marks the first day in which audiences can head on out--or just sit in and click over to iTunes or your digital download store of choice, whatever--and purchase the new Smile Smile disc, Truth on Tape. And, in many ways, the title of the disc explains exactly what can be heard within. That's 'cause each of the songs on the album were written by Ryan Hamilton in the wake of his breakup with one-time fiancee and bandmate Jencey Hirunrusme. It was a pretty nasty (and, yes, relatively publi
